![]() One aspect of COGEN: Sword of Rewind that really stands out is its stage designs which are often jaw-dropping as you conquer oodles of super-clever scenarios throughout. On the downside, the campaign is quite short as it only consists of 5 stages but once you complete it, you're tasked with playing them again and without spoiling anything it's much, much more difficult. In fact, there is a substantial amount of replay value within the campaign as you can aim to improve your score on each stage, discover shortcuts, and try to unlock some exceptionally challenging trophies that as of right now, I can't comprehend achieving. On the flipside, if you relish this sort of challenge like I do then you're in for a real treat as you skillfully tear through levels and practice perfecting your timing. ![]() That's right COGEN: Sword of Rewind is a super-tough game so if you're not a hardcore 2D action game fan then you'll likely get too frustrated to progress past a few stages. This mechanic is handled impressively well and it makes an already difficult game even more challenging, especially considering the fact that you constantly have to deal with tricky scenarios in rapid succession. The only way you will have to restart at the previous checkpoint is if you take damage after your gauge is depleted. Meanwhile, you have no health meter because one simple hit will end Kohaku's life but whenever that happens, you can simply rewind time. What makes the gameplay interesting is that you can rewind up to 3 seconds whenever your gauge is filled. You can also dodge via a backward roll and another button is used to interact with things. v1d30chumz 194-143-137-78Īt its core, COGEN: Sword of Rewind is a simple game to control as all you do is run, jump, dash, and attack with a sword kind of like Zero. ![]() I love it when games are this charming and the music is great, too. ![]() I loved watching the dialogue scenes complete with Japanese voice acting and expressive character artwork, especially whenever Kohaku pulls a goofy face to punctuate a silly comment. Kohaku is a delightful character with a bubbly personality and her living sword ExeBreaker is more straightforward albeit with some sense of humour that shines through on occasion. Although she has no memory of why she's in a strange compound, Kohaku soon finds out that her city of COGEN is in ruins so she ventures forth on a mission to discover just what the heck is going on. □ Don't you hate when things leap up from pits?ĬOGEN: Sword of Rewind has you play as Kohaku Otori who discovers a magic sword known as ExeBreaker that has the ability to rewind time with its Ouroboros System. │ Our reviewers are discouraged from reading other reviews before writing theirs in order to avoid contributing to an echo chamber.
